IHM Pilgrimage to Germany and Belgium








Dear Friends,

Welcome to the IHM Germany and Belgium pilgrimage blog. Going on a pilgrimage is one of the most ancient and traditional means of deepening one's faith. On this journey, we will be praying and enjoying the many sights and experiences of Germany and Belgium. We will visit religious sites where we will have the opportunity to express our devotion to the Blessed Mother. We will celebrate Mass at various cathedrals, monasteries and shrines.  We look forward to each other's company as we celebrate our faith and enrich our understanding and appreciation of these special places with Mary, the Mother of God, and with Christ's disciples. 

Each day will be steeped in prayer, especially reflections upon the Gospel texts appropriate to each place we visit.  Each day we will celebrate Christ’s gift to us on the night before He died, the Holy Eucharist.  As we journey to these far-away lands, we will keep you in prayer and ask that you pray for us as well, for a safe and grace-filled journey.

Sheen We celebrated Mass at eh Cologne Cathedral, a prominent Gothic-style church which started construction in 1248 and was completed in 1880. It was recently declared a World Heritage Site. We explored the largest reliquary in the western world - the Shrine of the Three Kings. We visited the Roman ruins.  And this evening we took a three hour Rhine River Cruise.

I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons." ― John Henry Newman 23 people began this journey.  Only one family returned.  This family contained 23 members who grew together with Jesus Christ and Our Blessed Lady.

October 7, day 7 “We sinned for no reason but an incomprehensible lack of love, and He saved us for no reason but an incomprehensible excess of love.” ― Peter Kreeft We stopped at the Notre-Dame Roman Catholic Cathedral of Luxembourg City on our way out of Luxembourg and back to Germany.  We traveled to Trier, once a Roman colony and trading center, nicknamed the “second Rome.”  It is a beautiful example of late gothic architecture.  We had Mass at the High Cathedral of Saint Peter in Trier, which is home to the Holy Robe that Our Lord Jesus Christ wore during the Crucifixion. We had a tour of the city of Trier, known for its well-preserved Roman and medieval buildings. We then continued to Porta Negra which is the only one of four Roman gates that still stands and was formally the home to a hermit monk named Simeon.
