October 4, day 4

“It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness; He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you; He is the beauty to which you are so attracted.” ― Saint John Paul II

Our day started with a city tour of Aachen. We visited the Aachen Cathedral commissioned by Emperor Charlemagne (now buried there), one of the oldest cathedrals in all of Europe. It is also home to St. Mary’s Cloak, St. John the Baptist’s beheading Christ’s cloth, Christs loin cloth and Christ’s swaddling clothes. We continued to Banneux, Belgium. An approved apparition site dating from 1933.
Our Lady of Banneux, on January 15, 1933, appeared 8 times to Mariette Beco, age 11, at Banneux, Belgium. She described herself as the “Virgin of the Poor.” Her promises were to be an intercessor for the poor, to relieve suffering, and to heal the sick. Mary told her “I come to relieve suffering and believe in me and I will believe in you.” She told her to place her hands in a small spring, telling her this spring was to be used for healing. In 1914 the villagers of Banneux dedicated their town to Our Lady. Thus, Banneux remained unharmed during World War I, and the village became known as “Banneux Notre Dame”.
